| Frequently Asked Questions
1) I have been told that it is safe to drink directly from the tap.
So, why do I still need to filter my drinking water?
It is expensive and impractical to completely eliminate all pollutants at the water treatment plant. Even after water has
been treated and filtered to become tap water, problems may still occur - such as bacteria contamination
through broken pipes and rust found in water storage tanks (see related article
How Safe Is Our Drinking Water?).
Hence, it is important to filter our drinking/cooking water at the point-of-use.
2) What is chlorine, and why is it in my water?
Chlorine is a chemical used almost universally in the treatment of public drinking water because of its toxic effect on harmful
bacteria and other waterborne, disease-causing organisms. Its extremely reactive nature makes it an effective agent for disinfecting water.
3) If chlorine is so effective, why do I need to remove it?
Studies have shown that the same reactive nature of chlorine that kills hamful bacteria also allows it to react with humic acid
from decaying organic matter in the water to form cancer-causing trihalomethanes (see related article
What Are Trihalomethanes). Also, the presence of
chlorine in tap water causes taste and odour problems that are distasteful to most people.
4) Doesn't boiling also eliminate odour from my water?
No, boiling does not completely remove odour from your drinking water. On the other hand,
you should know that there are certain issues associated with boiling chlorinated water (see related article
Hidden Problems of Chlorinated Water). A safer
alternative, and our only viable course of action, is to filter our drinking/cooking water at the point-of-use.
5) Besides drinking, what are the other uses of purified water?
Besides everyday use as drinking/cooking water, purified water is preferred by some health-aware people
for bathing and shampooing. In this case, the chlorine-free water is provided via an attachment to the shower tap
(check out our Hexagon Active Water Shower Filter).
Specialist clinics that perform colonic irrigation (aka colonic hydrotherapy) and enemas also require bacteria-free
purified water (or preferably, distilled water) during the treatment process.
6) I am still undecided which purifier I should purchase. Can you help?
For home use or small office use, you can consider taking the
Hexagon Hi-Energy Structured Water System or the
Water Master Drinking System to enjoy the benefits of energised and softer drinking water that is easily absorbed by your body.
Limited space on your kitchen counter top? The Hexagon 8-Stage Pi-water Purifier
with its small foot-print is just right for you.
Looking to eliminate chlorine, rust and other contaminants from your shower? Pick up the
Hexagon Active Water Shower Filter. Further reduce your exposure to chlorine at your wash basin with the
Hexagon Active Water Basin Filter.
7) Can I use purified water for my freshwater aquarium?
When making a water change to their aquariums, most owners know better than to use water from the tap directly. Some find that they need to age the water
for up to a week in order to achieve complete elimination of the chlorine. They may also have to screen the water through a cloth pre-filter to remove rust, sediment, etc.
You can avoid the above hassles by first running the water through a water purifier. Not only will it efficiently remove chlorine, chemicals, rust, heavy metals and
other contaminants, it also makes hard water softer.
8) How do I install my water purifier?
We will install it for you. Alternatively, you can choose to install it yourself as your purifier unit comes with simple and easily understood
DIY (Do-It-Yourself) instructions.
9) When and how should I replace the filter cartridge(s)?
Generally, we would suggest that you follow the replacement schedule as recommended for your unit type. However, this could vary depending on
your usage pattern and the water conditions in your home/office. We will be glad to replace the filter cartridge(s) for you upon delivery
to your premises.
